You need to steam the oven for a good crust and I used a pizza stone to bake on. The starter can be bought probably anywhere, but I got mine in San Francisco when I lived there, apparently the dry mix lasts forever. Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leeners.com\/bread-sourdough.html\" target=\"_blank\">site<\/a> that stocks it.<\/p>\n<p>Final verdict? Almost as good as San Francisco&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ferrybuildingmarketplace.com\/acme_bread_company.php\" target=\"_blank\">Acme Bread<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/sourdough2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-971\" title=\"Sourdough\" src=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/sourdough2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"329\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>more fun with almond biscotti&#8230;just because I missed Italy and am tired of fake, cakey versions. This is my favorite <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bigoven.com\/10064-Quaresimali-(Lenten-Almond-Biscuits)-recipe.html\" target=\"_blank\">recipe<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0from Gourmet that I&#8217;ve been using for years. I usually have to bake them a bit longer to get the perfect hard, crunchy texture. The pasta bowl is a traditional pattern from<a href=\"http:\/\/www.italianvisits.com\/umbria\/deruta\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\"> Deruta<\/a> in Umbria.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/biscotti2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-972\" title=\"Biscotti\" src=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/09\/biscotti2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epicurious.com\/recipes\/food\/views\/CINNAMON-ROLLS-WITH-PECANS-102296\" target=\"_blank\">Cinnamon rolls<\/a> with walnuts. Ok, so all I had were walnuts.
