{"id":9402,"date":"2011-06-10T08:36:00","date_gmt":"2011-06-10T17:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/?p=9402"},"modified":"2011-06-10T08:36:00","modified_gmt":"2011-06-10T17:06:00","slug":"quinlan-arts-center-and-musical-inspiration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/quinlan-arts-center-and-musical-inspiration\/","title":{"rendered":"Quinlan Arts Center and musical inspiration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night was the opening for the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/quinlanartscenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quinlan Arts Center&#8217;s<\/a> &#8216;Sound Off&#8217;, a juried exhibition of about sixty works of art inspired by music. In operation for more than 60 years, the Quinlan began as a sketch club in 1946 and has grown into a renowned regional arts organization. The exhibit will be up until August 13th.<\/p>\n<p>The arts center is located on historic Green Street and while I didn&#8217;t get shots of the area, I found these lovely photos on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/robertlz\/5075229858\/in\/set-72157625148241732\/\" target=\"_blank\">Flickr by Robert Lz.<\/a> Worth an hour&#8217;s drive north, just don&#8217;t go at rush hour.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some shots from the opening. I spent some time talking to a few artists and one of the curators, art historian Ana Pozzi-Harris. The other curator, John Amoss, happened to be playing guitar in the band.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/QuinlanArtsCenter.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9405\" title=\"QuinlanArtsCenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/QuinlanArtsCenter.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"322\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Sculpture2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-9406\" title=\"Sculpture2\" src=\"https:\/\/www.furiousdreams.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/06\/Sculpture2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"318\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>my painting <em>Blues for Ravel<\/em>, oil on canvas panel, 11&#8243;x14&#8243;. Inspired by Maurice Ravel&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centerforjazzarts.org\/classical_1c.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sonata for Violin and Piano<\/a>, a late composition from 1923-27. He experimented with the jazz influenced second movement &#8216;Blues. Mixed media. I talked to Doc at length about not just art, but his archaeological findings of early artifacts in the area. A\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thesga.org\/2007\/10\/notes-on-the-chicopee-limestone-kiln-near-gainesville\/\" target=\"_blank\"> limestone kiln<\/a> was discovered in 2007 near Gainesville and this comprehensive <a href=\"http:\/\/archaeofacts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/EarlyGeorgia_29_1_ALL.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> defines archaeology and\u00c2\u00a0describes the challenges of protecting Early Georgia sites.
