Smaller works, smaller pricing. Here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Etsy\" target=\"_blank\">Rob Kalin<\/a>, the founder, talking about his philosophies on sustainability and micro systems of commerce. &#8216;Millions of local living economies&#8217;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Percentages are better on Etsy than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qvc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">QVC<\/a>&#8216;s last couple of years. And people are beginning to realize the high hidden costs of low cost product mostly coming from China and SE Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Etsy&#8217;s December stats:\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$12.9\u00c2\u00a0 million of goods were sold \u00e2\u20ac\u201d\u00c2\u00a0 a 20% increase over November.<\/li>\n<li>That represents\u00c2\u00a0 815,327\u00c2\u00a0 items sold, a 13.4% increase from November&#8217;s stats.<\/li>\n<li>1,098,644\u00c2\u00a0 new items were listed, down from 1,143,942 items last month, a 4% decrease.<\/li>\n<li>164,789\u00c2\u00a0 new members joined the Etsy community \u00e2\u20ac\u201d a 22% increase.\u00c2\u00a0 That number included 19,481 new sellers.<\/li>\n<li>\u00c2\u00a0410,365,372\u00c2\u00a0 page views were recorded on the site, essentially the same number as November.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><object classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" width=\"425\" height=\"350\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/2s7p2Wtr8XI\" \/><embed type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"425\" height=\"350\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/2s7p2Wtr8XI\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently began selling my own paintings on Etsy.
